question:  Can voice-over auditions be done remotely?

answer:

Yes!!...there are a few ways to audition without commuting:

#1 - Some producers will have you audition for them over the telephone (the script will be emailed to you). However, on very large budget productions, a second, and in-person, audition may be necessary.

#2 - You can record your audition at a local recording studio and email an MP3 (preferably, find a studio that specializes in voice-over...not just music. This is because music producers may not know how to produce voice-over). Expect to pay between $75 and $200 per hour for a quality studio.

#3 - Build a studio in your home (many full-time professionals do this). The cost will range from $1,250 to $3,000 (depending if you want to include editing capabilities or not). With a phone-patch or ISDN, you can even have the casting professional "listen in" to your audition.

Good luck!
