About The Connecticut Voice Over Scene

Just up the road from the Big Apple lies the Connecticut voice over and acting scene. Broadway shows open here, musicians tour here, stars live here, and many performers on a smaller scale work here.

The professional theatres usually cast out of New York City, but sometimes have open calls for CT residents. For example, Long Wharf in New Haven, Westport Country Playhouse, and Rich Forum in Stamford.

And Connecticut voice over talent have many other local venues in which to hone their talent.

The Curtain Call Theatre in Stamford is a great community theatre, with many professionals directing, and offers excellent adult acting classes. Another good place for a professional workout is Actors Gym in New Haven. And to work out scenes monologues, etc. (although no formal classes), there's Theater Artists Workshop.

Also look into the programs of the local Community colleges. Many offer some excellent theatre classes.

Improv is excellent practice for both budding and established Connecticut voice over talent. World Class Indifference in Stamford has many classes and meet-ups.

Although casting personnel in most voice over genres tend to prefer acting chops over announcing experience, the Connecticut School of Broadcasting (CSB) might be appropriate to some voice over genres. (And the added skills might generate some supplementary income!) There are locations in Stratford and Farmington.

Agencies based in Connecticut include the Johnston Agency.

CT voice over talent sometimes also get stage acting experience in Community theatres such as:

  • Westport Community Theatre
  • Curtain Call, Stamford
  • Playhouse on the Green, Bridgeport
  • Milford Eastbound Theatre
  • Wilton Playshop

Events and organizations of interest to the voice over scene include: MAI_CT, the CT Film Alliance, and the Annual Film Industry Mixer.

Very important are the many corporations headquartered in Connecticut. Voice over narration in locally produced corporate videos, industrial training, etc., is just one of the many VO opportunities that enrich the voice over scenery here.

And, of course, from our studio in Fairfield, Connecticut, voice overs emerge in a steady stream.
