Career Building Testimonials:
I am very pleased to take the time to write about my experiences with
edge Studios, Kerry Miller and Brad Smiley.
With
no prior experience I enrolled in your evaluation/placement tele-class,
encouraged by your promise of "candid" evaluation. Kerry Miller
ran the class. Kerry was professional and friendly and kept us on task,
covering a great deal of information, all new to us. I was especially
amazed at how after only an hour of hearing our jumble of voices, Kerry
was able to pick the perfect script for each of us. Uncanny.
I also
completed my three (3) in-studio classes with Kerry. I felt I learned
so much each week. Kerry fostered my ability and confidence. I looked
forward to returning to the studio as Kerry would always challenge me
with new scripts and styles. Kerry's direction and explanations were spot-on
and made the time fly by.
Kerry
Miller and Brad Smiley produced and recorded my Narration Demo.
Admittedly, I was a bit nervous, but after just a few moments in the studio
I was completely at ease. Kerry and Brad made me feel relaxed and capable.
Their excellent suggestions and prompting made all the difference. I felt
great about the recording and left the studio buoyed by the experience.
Brad was even nice enough to e-mail me a copy of the recording so I could
play it for my family. It
seems everyone I have had dealings with at Edge Studios, especially Kerry
Miller and Brad Smiley are very generous in sharing their experience and
talent.
Thank-You.
Bernadette Braun
As a recent graduate of one of Edge Studio’s
training courses, I now feel well equipped to continue pursuing a fulltime
career as a voice-over artist. I found the studio’s staff, administrators
and coaches alike, both stimulating, helpful and inspiring. I would recommend
anyone wanting to build a future in the industry to sign up with them.
Dan,
The demos sound fantastic! I am very pleased. You have an incredibly professional
outfit. Kerry Miller is a wonderful instructor. Each moment of each training
session with Kerry was packed with useful instruction and information.
I'm new to voice-over - but I've done quite a bit of acting (see resume)
and I can tell you that as actors we pray for directors like Kerry: someone
with a vision, a goal and a roadmap to get there!
Brad Smiley was also top-flight during the production of the demos. He
had terrific suggestions, could sense when I was getting "wound-up"
- and could calm my voice (and me) down with his great sense of humor.
I know I wouldn't have come off near as well without both he and Kerry
keeping me on track.
Again, an absolutely first-rate, professional experience!
Sincerely,
John Hall
Hi David,
Thanks
to you and the Edge Studio team (especially Eric, who is a great coach)
for all the training, producing, and engineering work that went into my
demo. I now have it loaded up on my website...and I’m very happy
with the way it sounds.
With my website and marketing materials complete (thanks to your excellent
marketing foundation seminar and Paul Liberti’s marketing forum),
I’m now ready to get down to business! I also enjoyed your VO from
home seminar on Tuesday night. As always, you were very informative and
to the point, and you answered all the questions that I came into the
seminar with. I plan to continue my training through Edge Studio. The
team’s professionalism is excellent, and I always learn something
new.
Mike Borrusso
Edge
Studio has been of enormous help to me in evaluating my strengths in this
current voice-over market, and in providing me the expert guidance that
I needed. My demo CD was produced to the very highest standards. Edge
Studio is outstanding in that it is highly professional while also maintaining
the human dimension of personal connection. I don't know of a better place.
Miles Bari, New York
I just completed Pts. 1 and 2 of my Evaluation Program. Last night I was
with Eric Rath and he was just fantastic! Easy going, fun, smart, intuitive
and very inspiring!! He and I discussed the type of package that might
be good for me to get my Voice Over career rolling.
Best regards,
Sally
Hi
Dave,
So far my demo has been very well received by my friends and colleagues.
I do have to say that my “demo day” was by far the best day
ever as I start my journey into a voiceover career. The skill and patience
with which my demo was produced was amazing. I really appreciated the
time taken to involve me from a technical production standpoint. Not only
that but it was just plain fun. The whole process from the workshop and
evaluation, to speaking with Gina from time to time on the phone, to my
voice coaching sessions with Judy, who, by the way, is a consummate pro
and just a sweet person, to my demo production session with David, has
been an incredible experience. I am looking forward to continuing a working
relationship with Edge Studio hopefully far into the future. As David
said: “The demo is done…now, go out and make the world a better
sounding place”
I plan to !!!
Thanks so much for everything,
Steve Smith
Edge Studio's coaching staff succeeded in preparing me to produce a terrific
demo. (Two demos, actually) Their feedback was constructive, informed,
and candid. What's more, I found no one (Discmakers, Mixonic, etc.) who
could beat their small job CD duplication and printing rates.
Craig Phillips
Thank you David for your professionalism, helpfulness and honesty throughout
the entire process, from the very first phone call to finally producing
my demo. I know you're a perfectionist and it is a great asset! And thank
you Judy for being a fantastic coach and helping me, a novice, learn the
art of voiceovers. I truly enjoyed working with you! Your coaching has
been valuable. Thanks also to Gina and Susan for being helpful and friendly
on the phone. I wish you all the
best! Thanks!
I'm certainly thrilled with the chance to improve what has already been
a successful marketing tool for my abilities. I can't believe how quickly
I started to get work. I have recently become a regular voice for a sporting
goods chain and am starting to develop some wonderful relationships with
a couple of studios themselves. I can feel my future growing all around
me! I knew you were the guy and that Edge Studio was the place to finally
start this process off. The cost of the demo has been more than recouped.
And I have some exciting new stuff to add to the commercial portion!
Thank you!
John
David,
Thank you for the terrific voice over class. It was not only informative
but very entertaining as well. I resigned from a long time broadcast career
a few years ago. Recently, I've been looking to get back to work. You
gave me the answers I needed and I'm very excited to start my new voice
over career!
A big thanks to David and Edge Studios!

David,
Thanks for your insight and advice this morning. Our conversation was
very helpful. I will be implementing your suggestions regarding my demo
ASAP. I will contact your office later this week to schedule an appointment
to discuss the construction of a home studio. Thanks again for your valuable
input!

This is Brandon Conroy, from Laurel Maryland, I attended your workshop
this past Tuesday evening. I just received an email requesting my candid
thoughts, so here they are. Before the workshop, I didn't quite know what
to expect. Frankly, I was a bit nervous * mainly because I feared the
workshop would be demanding, competitive, or tense. I thought I would
have to prove myself a worthy candidate for Voiceover work. But you allayed
my fears within the first 5 minutes by setting a relaxed, comfortable
tone for the workshop. All in all, I found the workshop fun and enlightening.
I thought you did an excellent job teaching us * REALLY TEACHING, not
just informing * about the various characteristics of the voiceover industry,
as well as Voiceover technique. Your tips, illustrations, examples, and
descriptions were all very helpful. When 9:30 came, I did not want it
to end. I wanted to keep going. I am so excited about getting into the
Voiceover industry, and I just hope and pray that my voice is marketable
and that I can learn to use it in a way that sounds natural and effortless
. . . and confident. Right? :-)
So thanks again, and I hope you continue to enjoy your job as much as
you do.
Until we meet again,
~Brandon
Dear David,
Thanks so much for your help in preparation for my audition. It went quite
well, I think. I wasn't at all nervous; the producer at the sound studio
was extremely pleasant; and I did the read several different ways for
him. He thought it was very good (he said), and told me he would send
it over to the client in the afternoon, along with other people's reads.
He said he'd call me today to let me know what the client decided. Whether
I get the job or not, I have to say that I think I did a good job, so
I'm very pleased with that.
Thanks again, David, for helping me with my very first audition experience!
Ronnie
Hi David,
Just wanted to say thanks for the great workshop on Saturday. I got a
lot out of it and hope to continue to learn and do it. You are very professional,
but also did a wonderful job of entertaining us. I can tell that you have
a very good ear for voices, barely a word was out of our mouths before
your comments. I felt as though my previous classes were just for fun,
this was serious. And I still had a great time. I plan on practicing on
my own, but would like to do another training session and demo in the
near future. You've really gotten me motivated.
Thanks much.
Sharon Rich
David,
Thank you for the VO advice you gave me last week on pricing the job I
had on the table. I did wind up taking the work for Keeler Volvo and applied
your pricing advice. As always you are a resource I am glad I can count
on. Since taking your course and making my demo tape I have recovered
my costs and am now in the profit from the work I have obtained!

"The workshop is a first hand look into the world of voiceovers.
It's packed full of very useful information to help you pursue a career
as a voice over artist. David adds a lot of personal experience to the
mix, giving the workshop a real-world, no-nonsense approach to the industry.
I highly recommend this workshop for anyone interested in doing voice-overs."
Thanks again, and I will be in touch.

I feel very fortunate to have found Edge Studio. David and Mike are very
knowledgeable, patient, and supportive teachers, and they deliver their
instruction in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. They allow students to
learn and progress at a comfortable pace and always strive to have them
do their best. -I would recommend Edge Studio highly to anyone.

Hello,
I've been subscribing to your service and your monthly newsletter is the
most helpful, informative, and most importantly, relaxing newsletter I've
come across. It's more like having a friend help out. A very wise friend.
Thanks for your time
David K. Schlank
Thank you for sending me the newsletter, I have found the info both interesting
and useful. I am a singer basso and have been going to voiceover training
for some time now and find the subject of voice and voice-overs fascinating.
Once again, thank you.

Hi David,
I just got a great job narrating a multimedia presentation. I have also
recently done a couple series of promos! I really appreciate your help
and approach.
Diane Ligon
I love receiving your voice-over newsletter and read every word, taking
the advice offered and applying it to my career in broadcasting. It was
a pleasure meeting you at the workshop on Saturday afternoon/evening -
I thoroughly enjoyed it - I benefited greatly from your love and knowledge
of the industry. It is not often I have attended a four hour workshop
and had my concentration kept for virtually the whole time by the sheer
presence of a facilitator working without visual aids, etc. First of all,
I wanted to tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed your class. It was very
helpful, and it definitely got me psyched up to finally get out there
and do this thing.
Jen
I would also like to recommend David Goldberg of Edge Studio. I found
him through another WIFV member's referral, and have been very happy with
his work and company. He teaches a great class that's also very affordable
and is extremely helpful in getting you to demo level (and getting it
done - very important!). His phone number is 888.321.EDGE and although
he's based out of CT and NY, he runs classes down here a number of times
a year.
I have read over & printed out almost everything from your Web site....What
a terrific and informative site you have!!!...and I am requesting a little
direction from you as to where do I pick up from here now that my mind
set is ripe to get serious, work hard and have some fun with Voice Over....and
you guys are the best in the business, so I am going right to the top
Do you have a presence in Wash DC (coaching, recording studio, etc)? And
which package do you think would be the most beneficial for me to sign
up for next. I am smack in the middle of high tech.....selling video conferencing
and solutions...and I am convinced that using the Technology for V/O is
the way to go! Thanks for all your help in the past and I very much look
forward to working with you in the near future.

I found David’s class to be informative, encouraging and very, very
helpful in my determination to pursue voice over work. I felt that I received
much more by way of information, technique and help than I paid for. Thank
you, David
Sincerely,

A few years back, I signed up for your voice-over classes at Edge Studio.
Your teachings and advice enabled me to land several jobs, and, being
the voice for our businesses’ radio and TV commercials gave me the
experience I needed that opened the doors for me. I’m in the process
of acquiring an agent because I’m sending my demo-tape to Disney
in California, who had had expressed in a letter interest in my voice.
I’ve got my fingers crossed because children’s books and narrations
are my passion!
Margaret Gloria, CT
I got the book and it is EXCELLENT!!! You've done a great job and it's
the most up to date thing I have seen. I'll be in touch. If we have the
finds next semester and you have the interest, I'd love for you to come
down and do a workshop with out students. We have CD burners and are supposed
to be getting a new studio this summer. I appreciate all you did and hope
to see you in person on my next trip to New York.
Thanks again,
Marian Monta
I am happy to write this note David, to let you know what a positive experience
working with you and your company has been. I was concerned before that
first seminar started at the Governors House Hotel that I would be sold
a package which might not have anything to do with whether I had what
it takes to make it as a voice over artist. Boy, was I dissuaded of that
notion quickly - it was clear that your skilled observations and assessment
were honest. I would know by the end of that session whether I "had
it" and work from there, or whether I should "bag it."
You made it clear from the start that I had to work hard to correct my
chronic, if not terminal, overacting. Your patience and calm corrections
while I repeated phrases endlessly is amazing. Over and over and over
and then.... sometimes.....always if I work for it.......I got it! I can
actually hear myself do it differently! Clearly, you understand what it
takes to make a word sing. The coaching sessions, which I listen to often,
have helped me in other areas as well. I fancy myself an actor. During
an audition last month I could hear you admonish my hammy side to cool
it. It worked! I got the part I wanted and now I know how to bring a new
subtlety to my roles.
I could go on. I think I will. I think the Industry Guidebook is of great
value to the field. I hope you have gotten a lot of recognition for its
contribution. I have used many acting texts find them unwieldy. The Guide
is full of great tips, that are right there. The practical information
about what it is like "out there" has lessened the fear and
smoothed the way. While studying it, and I do STUDY it. It's easy to think
"Boy, this guy really knows what he's talking about." All of
a sudden its not such a mysterious, unreachable realm. I sincerely think
you have created an invaluable, well researched and RIGHT TO THE POINT
service.
Thanks David.

Hi David,
Thought you might like to know about my most recent job, because I got
it since I was able to record from home and sent it by internet for immediate
use by the client. I was able to use my tiny Olympus portable digital
recorder that I showed you a few months back. The included software enabled
me to change the compressed file into a wave file which I sent to the
client via e-mail. The quality to my ear was quite good, no background
buzzes or hums, and the client thought it was terrific. The work was a
narration for a major transportation company. It is a 90 second introduction
to a design manual for station projects, that will play over their local
corporate network. As my voice comes on, there are visuals of the features
that I describe. I visited them the following day to see the whole package
as they were adjusting the visuals to my voice. I believe that an important
element in my obtaining this job was my ability to talk in complete sentences
about sound files and sound transmission over the internet, which I would
not have been able to do without taking that recent course on doing voiceovers
from home. Your company's June and July newsletter you sent us, is the
best I have ever seen. Is there any way I can get a yearly subscription?
Sincerely,
Rosemarie Holbert
Hello David,
Thank you, I really enjoyed my workshop! I was a little hesitant on participating
in a 3 1/2 hour phone call. However, the time flew by. Your techniques,
candid feedback, and passion provide a great combination for understanding
and learning the business. It's been a long time since learning was so
much fun and valuable! I am excited to have my coaching session!
Thanks,
Renee G.
I was amazed at how much I didn't know about how to correctly use my voice
as a voiceover, until participating in this teleconference. The workshop
renewed my excitement about the field, since it was explained to me that
there are many voiceover opportunities available. I'm looking forward
to part-2 of the Evaluation Placement program!

Just wanted to say "thank you" to David. No matter what may
or may not happen in terms of voice-overs being in my future (I am still
interested in narrative work), I had to take this opportunity to say that
David was a first-class teacher. The four or four-and-a-half hours passed
very quickly, and I never once approached boredom! David was incredibly
informative, humorous, patient, and persistent! I came away with a much
greater understanding of what's involved in voice-overs, from all perspectives--"performer",
producer, client, etc. I also came away with a few additional insights
into myself as well!
Again, many thanks to David!
Respectfully,
Steve McKay
David,
Firstly, I must say "Thanks!" for letting me take the afternoon
session of this amazing workshop. I loved it! After my session in Washington,
D.C., I felt a little discouraged about being able to get into the voice-over
industry. I thought, "Well, I guess I'm not cut out to do his."
but this workshop gave me a renewed enthusiasm.
I realized that like everything else it just a matter of training. I only
wish I could have only retained more of the exercises from the session.
I would love to participate in continuous coaching using the methods that
Ms. Phillips shared with us. I really got it. How one could train your
voice. I feel this full body method also helps take the edge off of the
individual and one thinks not of a performance but of "natural"
conversation with a friend. Also, I obtained the awareness of how other
things in the body affect the voice. This was great but I did feel it
was a bit pricey for a 3 hour workshop even masters classes with divas
aren't as pricey. But I must say, I would pay it again if I had to. Also,
I think would have retained more if it had been a couple sessions over
a few weeks. I think there could have been some really noticeable changes
with more time spent. This was the most informative session yet from the
leaders in the industry (Edge Studio).
Thanks again.
Thanks. I found Maggie's workshop really helpful in a process-oriented
and holistic manner while reading copy.
Teresa McAleenan
I just wanted to take a minute and thank you for your newsletter and notices
that you send via email. The information and leads are a great inspiration.
Tony Wolfe
You've got to try this workshop! I learned how people hear me and specific
techniques I can use to control my voice, which is an extraordinary gift
in itself; and I also got a fair and detailed assessment of my potential
in this industry. The instructor was incisive, perceptive, persistent
and supportive...all this for $99.
I am very interested in getting more training and creating a demo.
Urcil
Being interested in achieving a career in voice-over, I didn’t know
where to start and what to do. As soon as I found Edge Studio’s
web site, I was breathing a sigh of relief. They had so much information
and getting started didn’t seem overwhelming. And when I took the
workshop, I knew I came to the right place. David is an excellent teacher
and any nervousness I had was calmed by his encouragement and technique.
Being an excellent listener, he pinpointed what I needed to work on and
I was amazed with how effective his teaching was and how my technique
improved with every session using his great learning techniques. I learned
so much and enjoyed every minute and I know I made the right choice.
Marcia Da Silva
The workshop was an excellent thorough introduction to the world of voiceovers.
I walked in not knowing anything and left feeling as though I had a good
idea what to expect. David, the teacher is very knowledgeable, patient,
and thorough. I trusted David with the information given and felt comfortable
in the personal setting with the other students.
Cheri Keeler, New York
Thanks David, I left you a message on your cell to call me back to discuss
my evaluation. I thought the workshop was fantastic. The four hours flew
by and I am really glad that I finally decided to explore voice-overs
since I've wanted to for so long. I've taken other intro classes, but
this was by far, the most informative and comprehensive class. I recommend
it to all those who ever considered doing voice-over.
Annie, New York
The seminar was terrific. It was incredibly informative, challenging and
provided me with a candid evaluation with regard to my ability to succeed
in this industry. I'd recommend the course to anyone interested in this
industry.
Regards, Amy , New York
David
Pleasure to attend the workshop last week. It was informative and an excellent
exposure the VO market. Defiantly provided the insights I wanted to determine
if this was something for me. The cost of the workshop was well worth
the information you provided.
Roger Milvid, CT
David,
For years, I have considered exploring voice over work since I do technical
work with a local live theatre and also do sound work for local theatrical
groups in my home studio. Until I found Edge Studio, the only other school
in my area with voice over training wanted its students to go through
an entire broadcast training regimen rather than just concentrating on
voiceover. That's more than I want to take on. I thoroughly enjoyed last
evening's session. It's to hear candid discussion about the industry,
get an idea what is involved in the business, and have an introduction
to voice over methods with exercises and feedback. I'm looking forward
to Part 2 in a few weeks and, hopefully, onward from there!
V/R,
Alan Reichert
Hi there. I have not stopped thinking about yesterday's workshop. The
3.5 hours went by so quickly, it was unreal. David was a great instructor,
and definitely fun to work with. He had very sincere critiques and gave
lots of pointers. I enjoyed it tremendously and learned a great deal!
I'm looking forward to part II and will be practicing everything I learned
last night intensely in the next 2 weeks.
THANK YOU!
Sincerely,
Olga R. Alvarado
