Testimonials & Success Stories

The recent class that I attended with David Goldberg was the single most valuable class of my entire career. David was able to precisely identify a common yet easily correctable mistake I was repeatedly making, show me what to do different to book the job and most importantly, David helped me find my money voice. I've never been busier and for the first time in my career, I've been so busy that I've started to turn down work. If you're trying to figure out whether the class is worth the time and money investment, STOP. This week alone, I booked a four figure job that paid for the registration of David's class 15 times over.

It's no wonder they say that "David has the best ears in the business."

David is an exceptional mentor and this is an understatement. No phone call, no email, and no missive from a student or VO artist trying to find their feet, is too unimportant to go personally unanswered by him. For the CEO of a studio like Edge, which is probably one of the busiest recording studios in the country, that is an incredibly selfless feat. David guides you with honesty and an astute business sense – for you – not for him. He wants you to succeed and will use his generosity, his knowledge, his well-honed skills and his state-of-the-art resources to your benefit. He never once pushed for me to sign up for new sessions or classes, but instead advised me on a very specific route that suited both my purposes and my budget. For David, his main focus is to make sure that you do not feel like just a ‘client’ who is trying to find the ropes, but instead feel like a full-fledged VO artist who just needs a gentle nudge in the right direction. The kind of confidence that instills is tremendous. I am truly lucky to have discovered Edge and even luckier to have had a chance to work with David.

David Goldberg has revolutionized the way I think and audition as a voice actor. After training with numerous coaches, my bookings doubled once we started training together and I utilized his effective techniques. His knowledge and love for the voiceover business is apparent in every session and matched only by his thorough understanding of how to help you become a continuously booked talent in this competitive market. Along with invaluable audition/performance advice, he has helped me solidify the branding and business model around my voice, resulting in more work than ever before. A fun and easy-to-work with professional, David’s “best ears in the business” will not only hear and draw out your strengths, they’ll provide you a foundation for a successful career.

Hi David,

Thanks so much for the remote Skype session this morning. I followed your advice for breaking down the script from the caster's viewpoint and I popped on v123 to put it into practice.

Minutes ago, I received an email from a media company that they're sending my audition onto the hiring client for review. All I can say is, "Wow and thanks!" This is quickest response I've ever gotten auditioning on the p2ps.

All the best,

John G

Hi David,
I'd like to thank you for the session you led. I am by no means trying to butter you up, but your session was the most helpful to me. It's the one I'm still thinking about the most, and the one I immediately talked to my husband about when I arrived back home in Los Angeles. ...So, again, sincere thanks for helping to propel me to the next stage of my career.

I have received training and coaching from a variety of established members of the VO community and David Goldberg’s coaching/teaching style has had the greatest impact on my development. Along with having his finger on the pulse of what is currently booking, he has an incredibly keen ear, with the ability to hear even subtle differences between a good read and a great read that would book the job. David tells it like it is - always with the intention to encourage - thank you for that!
Take care,

Christine

Gentlemen:

Thank you for a great session. You've both done it again - super impressive!

Marie

David,
Thank you again for the opportunity to read for you tonight at VO Virtual. (I read the documentary sample) You give very clear and perceptive comments and directions, and I really like your style!

Hi David!

...some years back in NYC I worked with you... on my character demo (which got me some cool work, by the way).

Now I'm living in LA pursuing more VO work. ...video game director is pitching me on a number of productions, so it's going pretty well. And I've only been here since September!

I'm touching base because this morning I met with [an agency] and you're name came up, he had a lot of nice things to say about you, as did I, and it reminded me of my time learning at Edge Studio. I still use many pieces from that demo. :)

Hope all is well!

Within a few months after being coached by you and your team, I am happily enjoying being the voice of the Chevy Malibu in radio and television commercials nationwide. Working with David has brought me good fortune, literally!

Best regards, Linda

Hi David,

What a wealth of fantastic reminders you gave out with the 7 Common Mistakes webinar last week. This week's will be terrific, too, I'm sure. Thank you for being so specific, generous, thoughtful, and down-to-earth with your advice and comments. It couldn't have gone better!

This was another great seminar and to me, the most enjoyable yet. David G is a great fellow and I appreciated
not only his information & presentation, but also the way he answered all questions and his humble demeanor.
Best one yet and am looking forward to the next! Thanks

John

Excellent webinar. I really learned a lot from David. Honestly, this was one of the best that I've ever attended.

David, your insights are invaluable, and thanks for hanging in there for nearly two hours! Hope your voice is OK tomorrow, after these two nights of presentations.

Hi David,
This is Daniel Goldman. I just wanted to thank you for your time and guidance in critiquing my webinar audition this evening!
While I hope you enjoyed my audition, the points you raised will indeed help me fine-tune what I do as I aspire to be a great asset to
top production studios and voiceover agencies in our industry as well as to top clients and anyone I work with!
Your insights are much appreciated and I thank you for your help! I hope we get an opportunity to work together some day!

Thank you David,

Daniel Goldman

Hi John & Becky ~

Thank you so much for hosting David's excellent webinar! I've been a voice talent for just about 40 yrs., and I was astounded at how much I learned from him. I'm looking forward to receiving last night's taped class so that I can review many of David's comments. Ironically, when my turn queued up, I was only able to hear the first minute or two of his comments. Then my audio went completely DEAD, and I had to re-launch my way back into the class. The audio kicked back in juuuuust as David wrapped up the last sentence of my critique. (Ya' gotta laugh at the incredible timing of that technological crash!) :o)

But aside from that little frustrating "glitch", I enjoyed both classes tremendously. I took copious quantities of notes, and will refer to them often. Thanks again for doing such an excellent job of organizing, hosting, & recording. Hope you'll keep me posted on your future webinars.

Warm regards,

Lori Taylor

David, I can't thank you enough for your excellent teaching in the Oct. 13th & 19th Webinars. Your analogy of the blue & red paint chips was worth the price of admission! Though I've been a voice talent for 40 yrs., I had several serious "AH! HA!" moments throughout both sessions. I took a boatload of notes, and am hoping your words of wisdom will soon become second nature. Many many thanks again, David!

Hi John,

Thank you, once again, for hosting Home Studio Auditions Parts 1 & 2. David Goldberg's practical advice and memorable stories really brought the material alive. I especially appreciated the opportunity to participate in the mock audition. It was a useful exercise and a great learning experience.

I had an unexpected "teaching moment"..... .....My unexpected lesson came in regard to the script I chose for its many typos. I did this because I wanted to learn how to audition with that challenge. David's candid comments on the error I made in announcing a script change on my second take were very helpful...... ......gave me more than I bargained for by reading my phrase "obvious typos" as "obnoxious typos." I found out, first hand, what a script change sounds like to the writer! This brought the point home in a way that nothing else could have.

Thank you.

Elizabeth

Hello David,

Thank you so much for your evaluation session on Tuesday. I found your comments -- both on my audition and the other auditions very informative…if fact, I used some of your suggestions when auditioning yesterday and I got the job!!!!

You have kindly agreed to coach me on preparation for an upcoming commercial demo so I will be speaking with you soon. Thanks again and have a great day!!

Mary Ann Jacobs

Hi, David,

Just wanted to send you a quick note to say "thank you" for the two webinars you did through voiceoverXTRA, including a big "THANKS" for your input on my audition (both the email and the audition itself). I really appreciate your candor and all the time and energy you spent in order to help us all learn, and I feel I gained a lot from those few hours of your time and expertise.

You gave me plenty to think about, and to consider as I progress in this fun field of voice-overs. As you might notice, I already took your advice and changed my digital signature, making it smaller, no highlighting, and making use of color in a less intrusive way.

I will also pay closer attention to the descriptions I give at the beginning of each take submit in an audition. I thought my introductory comments were clear enough, but when you heard them, you had questions about what I meant, so that was helpful to hear. I'll aim for more clarity in future auditions.

It's too bad you didn't have time to play to the end of the second takes of all the auditions. Those were the more interesting ones, I thought. As for my second take (on the New Flat Earth Baked Veggie Crisps audition) where I introduced it as "thoughtful, as the inventor of the product", my idea was that I would be reading it as if it were the thoughts inside the inventor's head. Your reaction to the idea was that it would lead me to a higher energy read, but in fact, my intent was to have it a quieter read, as if it were the thoughts in the inventor's head, not the excitement of having invented it, but just the thoughts about it. But I understand your perspective, and I will definitely work to make the introductions clearer, short, to the point. And I'll thank the listener at the beginning. Sometimes I have added "Thanks so much for listening", at the end of my audition mp3s, but as happened during the webinar, sometimes people don't make it all the way to the end, so again, thank you for that helpful bit of information, too!

Much continued success to you with Edge Studio! I'm sure we will cross paths again some time very soon.

David Goldberg helped me resurrect my voice-over career. I had produced a demo with another organization but it was not very professionally done. David, along with his staff, coached me and gave insightful and very constructive critique all along the way. The resulting VO demo was perfect for my voice and has been very successful in getting me work.

I have also taken several other voice-over workshops taught by David. He has a wealth of experience, expertise and common sense that are invaluable. He has also given me very practical marketing ideas to help me promote my VO career. David really cares about the VO industry and wants each of his students to do his or her best.
I heartily recommend David to anyone who is serious about starting a voice-over career and for anyone who is already into voice-over. David can take you to the next level of performance and professionalism

I've always said, “One can judge a company based on the leadership of it. And, good leadership FOSTERS good leadership.” Everyone I've spoken with at Edge, all the webinars I've listened to, all the tele-courses I've attended and even the folks answering the phones there – EVERYONE has this “aura” of integrity, professionalism and good moral character. Not to mention, they all seem to REALLY enjoy their jobs. I believe that is no accident. They see it in their Director.

I'm proud to know you, David. I'm HONORED that you have befriended ME! I don’t know how often you give out your personal cell phone number, (or call students from your home), but when you offered me your cell number in only your SECOND email to me, I interpreted that to say I was dealing with someone who was proud of his company and interested in customer feedback. 25 years in sales/marketing and customer relations has taught me that.

Hey David,

Just a quick note to thank you for today’s session. It was very insightful and FUN! I’m impressed, not only by your wealth of knowledge, but also your generosity with it. I look forward to working with your company more in the near future.

Thanks again.

Jan

...Dave!

Hope your evening is ending well. I can say my time with you this afternoon was well worth the effort and more! I thank you for your precise, forthright, professional but friendly VO guidance. You have a gift and thanks for sharing your insights and practical advice.

I'm set for Vanessa and Erik's telecoaching in a week and two. I'm so honored to have had your EAR and knowledge today. Much continued success to you and EDGE!

The Edge Studio sessions at Faffcon, led by David Goldberg and Randye Kaye, threw open a door to the hidden world of what happens when you send out your demo. Their insights and practical advice opened eyes and altered strategies of those lucky enough to be a part of it.
For a voiceover talent with years of experience, it's easy to continue walking the same paths, with the same steps, using the same strategies, but the resources offered by Edge Studio offer new directions to more exciting places along your career journey. Taking advantage of their marketing articles has generated new clients and helped maximize my existing contacts increasing my voiceover business' bottom line.
David Goldberg's wealth of experience, willingness to share, approachability and dry wit, make him an ideal presenter who engages his audience and leaves them walking out of the room with practical, workable strategies that can be immediately applied to their voiceover businesses. His insights during three sessions at Faffcon were invaluable. Upon putting his suggestions into play, my business improved.

I was so shocked and stunned that you emailed me back so quickly! WOW! I SO appreciate your taking the time to respond and to give me some great thoughts to ponder! I will be paying far more attention to my clarity,
and I look forward to having Joey and the engineers... evaluate my home studio equipment soon, to ensure that I am tech-ready for my demo production, and perhaps we can isolate if it is a mic settings issue that is contributing.
Thanks again (so much!!) for taking the time to send precious feedback to this newbie!

Hello David!

Hope your day is going well. I wanted to use solid time today to really, really read and absorb your critique from yesterday's VO session. Your feedback was incredibly honest, insightful, accurate, and pro-active. Much appreciated.

I'm going to sign up with Mike Ingram and Ms. Vanessa as our schedules permit. Your guidance is as good as white gold ... or platinum (?)

Have a super day, Dave!

Paula T. Lin

As a first time attendee at Faffcon I want to drop a line to say how much I enjoyed the two sessions you and David did today. I really appreciate your willingness to share. It was excellent. Thanks.
