You know when you take your shoes off and have to scratch your feet? Chances are you have fungus on your feet. While you're running around all day in your sneakers, your foot becomes warm and sweaty. This is the human environment fungus love the most. Imagine millions of tiny fungi crawling around, feeding off all the slimy stuff in between your toes? That's right - toe cheese is dinner for fungi. As they bug around eating, they're also dying, breeding and pooping, which could irritate your skin, making you want to scratch it. Peer Feedback:
If I were seven to ten years old I think I'd have gone right to discoverykids.com to find out more. I caught the long I mistake and am glad you did, too. Recording quality was good. Was the scratching sound SFX or were you really scratching? Just curious; you don't need to answer unless you want to. :)
Peer Feedback:
Thanks, Chris. This one is a big stretch for me, and my performance choices are different from what others have done with this script (and I liked their choices). I'm wondering if it's even a no-no for me to bother with it without having a young, fresh, Disney kind of voice. Anyway, my thought is to have a kid-oriented read on my demo, but now I'm wondering if I've bitten off more than I can chew. The script I have earmarked for it is a meditation similar to the one I posted the other day. But the one I've decided to get professional feedback on is this, which should be fun and interesting, and it should post publicly in a couple days (Hi, Kristin, if you read this...).
The scratching is just what I did to my arm while recording. I was surprised at how clean the sound turned out! I'm not even touching music beds or canned sfx at this point.
Thanks, again!
Peer Feedback:
Thanks so much, Kristin. I always think of my career as steering quite heavily towards corporate and medical narration, but Edge folks always tell me "Mom voice! Mom voice!", and I have to say this was really fun to do. I've followed some of your checkups in the forum, and your instruction to students to have an intention for each sentence/segment of copy was very much on my mind when doing this.
I hear you on the tag line losing energy. I very much struggle with trying to sound natural, and it flattens my reads whenever I attempt it. I'll work on the other things you mentioned, too.
Practice, practice!
Thanks, again! Very helpful.

Everything was spoken clearly, but it seemed to drag a little bit. Since this is for children, I think that this could be a little more upbeat. I think you could shave off 2 seconds with a slightly quickened pace, or even just vary it in places. Add a touch more of enthusiasm in your voice and it would jump to the next level.

From Edge Script Library...my girls loved this book as babies, are now full-grown with babes of their own. Practicing my enunciation, breathing and recording technique. There's so much to all this, it's mind-boggling. I think my timing is a bit fast, but was trying to keep it in the 60-second window (and failed). All comments welcome. Thanks, guys.
Peer Feedback:
you have a great voice man! I could listen to you all day no joke.
This is from the movie "room" right?
Peer Feedback:
Thanks Don. Don't know of a movie, but the book was called "Goodnight Moon". It's by Margaret Wise Brown, first published in 1947. Quite possibly millions of children were lulled to sleep by what I would describe as it's "guided imagery" (tho it is not exactly that in the truest sense). Appreciate your comment. I would have preferred to read it a bit slower perhaps, but as I said, was trying to get it into a minute. Be well.
Peer Feedback:
Was the 60 window mandated by the copy specs? If not, yeah, it was rushed. And if was the Forum suggestion? Ignore it. Tell the story.
The tone and vocal quality was very nice for the story. You're lulling a child to sleep, so the pacing is important. Take your time and tell the story. It would probably get softer and softer to the end as the child nods off.
The recording quality is pretty good.
What is your setup - DAW, mic, interface, etc.?
Peer Feedback:
Sorry for the delay, been in New England visiting family...glad to hear from you again James...I use a Sennheiser e-835s with a Tascam DP24SD porta-studio, which I also use for multi-track music recording. I try to use as little conditioning, EQ, effect, etc. as possible although occasionally drop the bass a little as it tends to boom. Have a bunch of gadgetry (Digitech Vocal 300 processor, Pigtronix Infinity Looper, Korg Microarranger) but find these of little of no use for "spoken-word"readings. Soon as I'm caught up with myself, may try re-reading "Good-night Moon" as it's one of my faves. Thanks again, and take good care of yourself. b.

Your pitch matches the script extremely well. Reminds me of other PBS adds perfectly! I would recommend trying to eliminate the background hum noise, but that is always something I am dealing with as well. There were some slight mouth noises and bumps, but nothing too extreme.
Good Job!

The next day,
the prandsom hince went all over the coreign fountry
looking for the geautiful birl

Finally he came to Rindercella's house.
He tried it on Rindercella's mugly other ... and it fidn't dit.
Then he tried it on her two sad bisters ... and it fidn't dit.
Then he tried it on Rindercella ... and it fid dit.
It was exactly the sight rize!
So they were married and lived afily ever happter.

One day, a lion announced he was sick.
He let out a feeble roar that summoned
All the animals to his death bed to pay
Their last respects.
Then he slowly turned and entered his cave.
A goat came and entered the cave.
Then a sheep went in.
Then a duck.
After a while, the sick lion came to the mouth of his cave.
He yawned. Finally, he noticed Fox, who had been waiting outside.
“Fox,” smiled the Lion, in a welcoming kind of way.
Why have you not entered my cave to pay your respects to me?
“Your Majesty,” said the fox.
“I noticed animals go into your cave, but none come out.”
