AEC Foundation narration

Every child deserves to grow up with opportunities to learn and thrive. With his skills, her talents, each is a potential leader, a contributor, a productive citizen. How kids grow up will determine their success as adults. But sadly, more than one in five children in America are growing up in poor families and poor neighborhoods, where the chance to thrive is anything but a given. The Annie E. Casey Foundation is dedicated to changing that.

ARF

Berea Animal Rescue Friends (or ARF as we’re known) finds adoptive homes for almost a thousand stray or unwanted dogs and cats each year.
We’re a no-time-limit facility, which means that our small staff and 300-plus volunteers care for animals for as long as it takes to find them a loving home. We provide shelter, food, medical care and love 365 days a year.
And we do so exclusively through donations and fundraising events.
ARF is grateful for all your support over the past 25 years. Yet now we need your help more than ever…

Recent years have been record-breaking for ARF. Maybe it’s because of the economic downturn. Or maybe it’s just that more people know about us and our services…
Whatever the reason, ARF’s operating costs and the number of animals we serve continue to climb.
And while these numbers have gotten bigger and bigger, our small 1500 square-foot facility has remained the same.
It’s overcrowded (pause), outdated (pause), and desperately in need of structural repair.
That’s where you come in…

ARF performs an essential role in our community by taking care of some of the area’s most helpless creatures. This community needs ARF – and ARF needs our help.

ARF needs a larger dedicated facility… a more spacious home for our area’s unwanted and abandoned animals.

It would be a home for the entire community, too. A place where you could get everything from pet training to low-cost spay/neuter programs.

A larger, more efficient facility will provide a healthy and humane space for abandoned animals, a family-friendly environment for adoption, and a valuable resource for the entire community.

With our current facility facing double capacity, our animals need your help now!
Please go to the Berea Animal Rescue Friends Building Happy Beginnings Capital Campaign website to find out how you can support our cause.
And get us one paw closer to our $5 million goal.

Chapbooks and Broadsides

Because Chapbooks and Broadsides are quick and inexpensive to produce, they are a great medium for experimentation & personal expression. And unlike blogs (which are also quick and inexpensive to produce), you can hold them in your hand, caress them, read them on an airplane, hand them out to random strangers on street corners, take them in the bathtub, sleep with them under your pillow, scent them with perfume, and let your cat or dog chew them into little bits.

So why letterpress? In this post-industrial age of plastic and virtual realities, we all crave the pleasures of the tactile/the real. What is more satisfying to touch and to look at than a gorgeous inked impression on a zaftig sheet of paper? You know this to be true, what are you waiting for?

Habitat for Humanity Restore

Here we have, a ceiling fan. If you asked this fan an accusing question like;

“What have you done with your life?”

Its response would sound like this......cause its an object.....not a person.

But that’s why I’m here. You see, this ceiling fan’s done quite a bit to save people money, help the planet and build homes.

It works like this. Its previous owners the Smith’s were at a point in there lives when they no longer needed the cool breeze this fan provided. So, instead of throwing it out. They gave it to the ReStore. The ReStore gave the Smiths a tax deduction, sold the fan and funneled the money into Habitat For Humanity.

The Smiths saved money through the deduction
Another family buys a fan for half the price.
Habitat for Humanity continues to build homes.

Every body's in a good mood.

The Smiths are pumped about saving money.
The customer’s ecstatic about a great deal.
Habitat For Humanity.
And obviously, the new home owners love getting a brand new house.
And the ceiling fan, its chillin’.

The Foundation for Shamanic Studies with drumming

Founded in 1979 by anthropologist Michael Harner, The Foundation for Shamanic Studies is dedicated to the preservation, study, and teaching of shamanic knowledge for the welfare of the planet and its inhabitants. All of our work is based on the concept of core shamanism, a system designed for Westerners to apply shamanism and shamanic healing successfully to their daily lives. This system is based upon the universal features of all brands of shamanism, rather than upon variations specific to certain cultures and regions of the world.

United Way Mission: Impossible

Good morning Mr. Phelps:

The agencies and programs you are looking at are facing critical challenges. With federal and state budget cuts, many do not have the funds they need to tackle specific projects. Video surveillance has captured a few agencies recruiting undercover volunteers.

Never before have your services been needed by so many.

This will be a tough assignment; you can not do it alone.

To accomplish your mission, you will need to align yourself with an elite team.

Your team must be willing to donate their time, roll up their sleeves, and exhibit an abundance of caring power to complete 64 specialized projects.

Your mission, Jim, should you decide to accept it, is to increase awareness of local nonprofits and show what a team of top-notch volunteers can accomplish.

As always, should you or any member of your DOC Team be caught or photographed, United Way will divulge all your actions in their 2011 Day of Caring Volunteer Salute.

This tape will self-destruct in five seconds.

Good luck, Jim

Words. They can do anything.

Words. They can do anything. They can call in a dog at night. They can bring comfort to an old friend. They can say happy birthday to a girl whose balloons are slowly sinking. But sometimes, words can get you into trouble. Like the human rights activist who was kidnapped for standing up to Government corruption. Or the journalist sentenced to 10 years in prison for sending an email. Or the 1000s of men and women who are arrested and tortured, just for demanding fair election. Now we need your words, to demand justice; To take a stand. To offer hope, to people around the world, who are silenced for simply speaking their minds. Write a letter or speak out today. Your words can lead to their freedom. Words. They can do anything.
