Vietnamese is a relatively young language for its part of Asia. Prior to French colonial rule, Chinese was the official language. It was only after the French left that Vietnamese became the official tongue of the state of Vietnam. While the language is largely derived from its Asian neighbors, Vietnamese does show trace amounts of influence from French rule, especially in vocabulary like cà phê (café) for coffee.

Just like with any language, when you are working with Vietnamese voice over, you need to consider a lot of things very carefully. What is your goal by translating to or from this language? Who is your specific audience within the group of people who speak this language? Do you know how to adapt your script to speak to this group?
